Mindfulness for Albertans

Your Mental Health Comes First

I’ve recently been hired by the Alberta Mindfulness Associate to facilitate and teach mindfulness to Albertans to enhance mental health and wellness. This is a FREE * 8 week group program sponsored by the Alberta Government to support Albertans during and after the pandemic.

What is Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)?

MBCT is a skills-based program that combines elements of cognitive therapy with mindfulness meditation in an eight week group format. It is a type of psychotherapy that involves a combination of cognitive therapy to recognize negative patterns of thought, uses meditation to achieve a calm and stable state of mind, and develops a present-oriented, non-judgmental attitude of mindfulness.

The key element in MBCT is to help individuals recognize the early warning signs of depression or stress and to disengage from automated unskillful thinking and habits by having a different relationship to their thoughts, feelings and body sensations.

MBCT can help reduce stress, anxiety, prevent depression relapse, improve mood and working memory, enhance self awareness, increase resilience and improve focus and concentration. Classes are virtual via zoom link and are held on consecutive weeks for 2.5 hours. Typical enrolment are between 10 - 20 participants.

FREE to all Albertans. The Alberta Government is fully funding this program
