MBCT PROGRAM

We can’t escape suffering; what we want to do is to activate a different pattern of relationship with suffering, without emergence of old patterns or self beliefs about ourselves

Zindel Segal

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy - 8 week group program

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based group therapy for preventing depressive relapse and treating mood disorders. It reduces depression, anxiety, and stress.

The MBCT program, developed by Zindel Segal (University of Toronto), Mark Williams (University of Wales, Bangor), and John Teasdale (University of Oxford) is an evidenced-based program for learning skills and practices to manage depression, anxiety as well as preventing relapse. By learning to identify the triggers and symptoms of anxiety and depression, participants can interrupt habitual patterns of reaction to situations, which allows them to choose a more skillful response.

Mindfulness is a non-judgmental way of paying attention to the present moment. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is designed to bring awareness to the habitual negative thinking that leads to depressive and anxious spirals. Combined, MBCT interrupts how we habitually react to situations, so we can choose to respond in more skillful ways.

Research has demonstrated MBCT is as effective as antidepressants in the prevention of depressive relapse or recurrence.

MBCT teachings and mindfulness meditation is based on scientific research validating the efficacy in decreasing the relapse of depression & anxiety and increasing well being.  Research supports improved physical, psychological and behavioral outcomes including better sleep, lower blood pressure, reduction in heart disease and overall improved health.

Mindfulness meditation is an integrated mind-body approach for accessing powerful inner resources and a way to cultivate being fully present in your life.

Some of the clinically proven benefits of MBCT are:

  • Prevention of depressive relapse, particularly those who deal with chronic or acute depression and/or mild to moderate anxiety
